Gateway America Air Cargo Was Born in Miami MIAD

Welcome to today’s Flying Talkers Broadcast We are glad you are here….. This time we will visit the past and take a look ahead at the giant enterprise known as Miami International Airport Air Cargo Gateway to Latin America….In the beginning Pan American Airways Route 6 FAM-22 was Miami’s early cargo connection via flying boats that operated from nearby Dinner Key in Coconut Grove, fed by the US Army Air Force that operated on 36th Street Airport at The Miami International Air Depot (MIAD).The Pan Am route Miami via Natal, where Brazil sticks out into the South Atlantic closest to Africa, initially landed flights in Leopoldville. In early 1942 a dozen flights from Miami to Leopoldville laid the ground work for the vital and very busy pioneering air cargo traffic lane that came to be known later as “The Congo Route”.

     Chandra Kant Govil the President of The Air Cargo Agents Association of India comes across as a leader with a difference. As Chairman and Managing Director of Activair, he loves to talk – not so much about his work as a forwarder -- but about his “other” pursuit: a social worker. Speaking to FlyingTypers, he said, “My full-time focus is on Agents Association, now that I am the President.” And he does not take that lightly. In addition, to organizing the annual convention – that is being held  right now December 5-8 Govil has been able to convince FIATA to hold a meeting in Delhi from May 21- 24 2025.
